NEW PASSWORD CHANGE PROCESS*
In February LTS will be initiating a new process for opening and maintaining Lehigh user accounts (usernames and passwords). This new process, which affects all users, will provide an enhanced degree of identity protection and overall security. Current users will encounter the new process the next time they are required to change passwords or whenever they forget their password and need to reset it.

The new process for account maintenance entails three "challenge" questions - questions that must be answered correctly in order to reset a password. All three challenge questions are created by the user. The new process for opening an account no longer utilizes social security numbers or birthdates but now requires a Lehigh Identification Number (LIN) and a Banner Personal Identification Number (PIN) as well as the three challenge questions.

In addition the entire interface has been redesigned to ensure that it is as intuitive as possible. Client Services Teams, including the Help Desk Team, will be assisting new and current users with the process. For more detail, visit
http://www.lehigh.edu/~inlts/help/docs/account/chpw.htm

New 18th Century Collections Online (ECCO)
Eighteenth Century Collections Online(ECCO) has been added to Lehigh's growing list of full text databases. This premier research resource includes every significant English-language and foreign language title printed in the United Kingdom during this period, along with thousands of important works from the Americas. With full-text searching of some 25 million pages, ECCO allows researchers new methods of access to critical information in the fields of history, literature, religion, law, fine arts, science, technology and more. ECCO is now available on the Database Finder at
http://databases.lib.lehigh.edu/finder/dbfull.asp?DBID=183 and in MyLibrary. For assistance or more information, contact Kathe Morrow, Humanities Librarian at 83041 or kem6.

Benjamin Franklin Resources Available & On Exhibit
A new exhibition features Lehigh University's Special Collections materials to mark the 300th birthday of Benjamin Franklin. A Digital version of the exhibit is at: http://dig.lib.lehigh.edu/projects/exhibits.asp

Titled "Cool Thoughts of Benjamin Franklin," it is comprised of works written or published by Franklin and includes items on electricity, politics (Cool Thoughts), and smoky chimneys, among others. It is located in room 625 of Fairchild Library, the temporary home of Special Collections. Hours are 1:00 to 5:00 pm weekdays or for an appointment, call 610-758-4056. The exhibition was curated by Ilhan Citak, Kathe
Morrow, and Brian Simboli.

Recent publications on Franklin are also on exhibit, on the main floor of the Fairchild Library, and are available for loan.

EndNote 9 Now Available, Upgrade Now!
The latest version of EndNote, the popular bibliographic management software, is now available on campus via Install Software. New users of EndNote can enjoy its many features (electronic gathering of references and abstracts, incorporating them into word processed documents, linking to full articles, adding graphical elements to papers, etc.).

Experienced users will find one new feature disconcerting: EndNote is no longer "backwards compatible." Files created in EndNote 9 cannot directly be used by versions 2 through 7. EndNote 9 can read and use earlier version files, but will save them as copies in the new format. Files can also be saved in a format that can be imported into earlier versions, but regular users of EndNote will find this tedious. Version 7 users should upgrade to version 9 as soon as possible. The process is simple quick and painless. To ease the transition for Campus users, both EndNote 7 and EndNote 9 will be available until mid-February. Mac users will be pleased to learn that version 8 files are already compatible with version 9. Consult Sharon Siegler (83068, sls7@lehigh.edu ) or Brian Simboli (85003, brs4@lehigh.edu ) for more information.

Bigger and Better Engineering in 2006
Several engineering societies have increased the content coverage of
their online resources for 2006. First, the American Society of Civil Engineers has added conference publications to the ASCE Research Library (http://www.ascelibrary.org ) All of their conferences since 2003 are included, as well as a few from earlier years. Next, the IEEE has added its complete list of conferences (over 400) to Lehigh's IEEEXplore (http://ieeexplore.ieee.org ) subscription, beginning with the 1998 volumes. This includes those conferences published separately by the IEEE Computer Society. Finally, the Materials Research Society proceedings can be found in the MRS Proceedings Library http://www.mrs.org/publications/epubs/proceedings/ beginning with 1998/1999. Each site includes a search engine to find specific articles as well as complete conferences. Individual titles will be added to ASA, the online catalog, over the semester and linked through Lehigh Links (SFX), the electronic document locator.

Microsoft Project Now Available
The Microsoft Project software is now available to Lehigh faculty, staff, and students. In compliance with our Microsoft license agreement the software is available as follows:

-- Student use of Microsoft project is limited to the public sites. Microsoft Project *cannot* be installed on student-owned computers, whether off-campus or via WIRED (in residence halls).

-- Microsoft Project can be installed from the "Install Software Page" on Lehigh-owned computers and public site computers.

-- Faculty and staff may manually install Microsoft Project on Lehigh PCs. Go to the EWFM library circulation desk to borrow a copy of the software.

-- Faculty and staff can purchase the software ($10) at the campus bookstore for work-at-home use.

Acrobat 7.0 ready for download
A new version of Adobe Acrobat is available for use via the Lehigh University computer LAN. Adobe Acrobat Professional version 7.0 can be installed on University owned computers in classrooms, public sites and offices. The software is used to create and edit .PDF files, while the free, Adobe Acrobat Reader is intended for reading .PDFs.

Users who would like to install this new version of Acrobat Professional should make note of the instructions on the Install Software page. Correct installation will eliminate the license contention problems occasionally experienced with the previous version of this software.

CHANGE TO MASS EMAILING WITH MOZILLA THUNDERBIRD
Due to the introduction of 6-digit Lehigh User IDs and the way that Mozilla Thunderbird handles email address auto-completion, all mass emails must now be sent to full email addresses (not just to a list of 4-or 6-digit User IDs).

Failure to do so can result in the wrong person or people receiving your email! This is because when Thunderbird searches 4-digit IDs against the Lehigh directory, it automatically selects a 6-digit ID if it finds one that starts with the same 4-digits. For example, you may intend to email user "aaa4." However, if there is a user with the ID "aaa405" that person would receive the email message instead.

If you have sent mass emails in the past to comma-separated lists of only Lehigh IDs, you MUST follow these new instructions here:
http://www.lehigh.edu/computing/docs/thunderbird/thunderbirdmail.shtml#MassEmail

If you have been sending your mass emails to lists of full Lehigh email addresses in the format "UserID@lehigh.edu" , you do not need to change the way you compose your mass emails, and you may disregard this message.

Any questions about this new process should be directed to your computing consultant.

Checking H: drive allocation and usage
It's wise to periodically check to see how much space you have left on your HOME or H drive.

1. Go to My Computer.
2. Right Click on your network drive (e.g., sek2 on Home12\m-z)...).
3. Select Properties. Note the used space, free space, and capacity; a
pie chart will visually present the used (blue) and free (pink) space.

Meet-Me-Conference Telephone Feature Available
LTS would like to remind you that the Meet-Me-Conference feature is available for your use. We are also pleased to announce that there will be NO COST to your department for using this feature! Meet-Me-Conference allows up to 12 people (on or off campus) to dial into one telephone number with no need to use a conference button. All parties simply dial into one number and they are all joined in conference. Remember, this service can be used at night and on weekends as well.

Additional information about the service and how to reserve a conference
number can be found at our web site at http://www.lehigh.edu/phones/meetmeconf.html

If you have any further questions, please contact Monica Weber at x85002
or send email to mmh1@lehigh.edu
