NOW ONLINE: DISK QUOTA INCREASE REQUEST FORM
LTS is pleased to announce a new online system for requesting disk quota increases. In the past, users had to fill out paper forms to request quota increases for e-mail accounts, webspace (AFS), Compute Server (Vega). With the new online system, requests are electronically routed through appropriate channels, saving time and effort. Users receive an update when their requests have been either approved or denied. JOURNAL CITATION REPORTS (JCR WEB)
Journal Citation Reports (JCR) is now available online. When used in tandem with other sources, JCR data enables users to assess the research impact of science and social science journals. The data can play a role in selecting journals to monitor for reading or publication. The online version has a number of useful features such as 10-year analyses of publication and citation patterns, self-citation figures, and graphical displays.
Coverage starts with 2006 and is available from the Library's database finder at: http://databases.lib.lehigh.edu/finder/dbfull.asp?DBID=219 . Coverage for prior years is available in the reference section of Fairchild-Martindale Library.

SECURING LAPTOP AND DESKTOP DATA
PGP HARD DISK ENCRYPTION PILOT PROJECT
Data security is becoming extremely important as the number of data breaches and lost or stolen computers is continuing to rise. Under certain State and Federal laws, the theft of sensitive data must be disclosed to all parties that may be affected. Data is usually classified sensitive when it falls within the guidelines of FERPA (student records), HIPAA (medical records) or GLBA (financial records)or any other data an institution determines as sensitive.
During the past few months Library and Technology Services (LTS) has been identifying and evaluating whole disk encryption software packages that can be used for encrypting laptop and desktop computers in the event of theft or loss. If a laptop or desktop computer containing sensitive data is stolen and the hard drive is encrypted it does not have to be disclosed to all parties affected (as mentioned above) because encryption renders the data unreadable to a person or person (s)who do not possess the encryption key.
After extensive testing and evaluation, LTS has determined that the whole disk encryption software best suited for Lehigh is PGP http://www.pgp.com/products/wholediskencryption/index.html . This software was successfully tested in a small controlled environment, but in order assure it will work for a large group of users, LTS is conducting a 100 user PGP Encryption Pilot consisting of users from various departments on campus. The PGP pilot program will continue through January at which time feedback will be analyzed and a decision will be made as to the use of the software. LTS purchased 100 copies of the software for the pilot so every user participating in the pilot will be able to continue to use the software if he/she would like to do so. LTS is still looking for volunteers. If you consistently work with sensitive data, you will be a good candidate for the pilot program. SPECIAL COLLECTIONS RECEIVES 100 YEAR-OLD CAMPUS PLAN
Thanks to the generosity of a Lehigh alumnus, Special Collections has received an original print of Richard Rummell's 1907 map of Lehigh University. Robert W. Numbers, '50, donated the framed 3' x 5' map to commemorate the one-hundredth anniversary of its production.
In addition to the Rummell lithograph, the Numbers family also donated two scrapbooks documenting the 1947-48 and 1950-51 football seasons. It is through the generosity of donors such as the Numbers that we are able to expand our collections and preserve Lehigh's history.
The campus plan will be on display in Special Collections in Linderman Library. Please visit us Monday-Friday afternoons from 1:00-5:00 or call 8-5185 for more information.

WHAT'S ON iTUNES UNIVERSITY?
Lehigh University officially launched its iTunes U site this fall. iTunes University is a free, cross-platform application that allows for the easy management and delivery of podcasts and other media content. This content can be made available in three different ways: to the general public, university only, or by academic course. We are experiencing a steady growth in the number of podcasts in iTunes U andhope to continue that trend. Lehigh's iTunes U site is accessible by going to:http://www.lehigh.edu/itunesu
The publicly available courses are accessed through a guest log in, while the academic courses are available using a Lehigh username and password. In addition to the 65 academic courses that are using podcasts as part of their coursework, there is a rich selection of content that highlights the diverse activities taking place throughout the campus community. For more information on working with iTunes U, please contact Ilena Key at ilk204@lehigh.edu. Here is a small sample of those podcasts. Some other podcast uses include Athletics and the Dalai Lama events.
Under "Events-Arts and Entertainment", LUAG (The Lehigh University Art Galleries) tab, there are podcasts that highlight art events that are happening on campus, such as lecture series, panel discussions and exhibits. Under the "Student Art Work" tab there are examples of several student projects.
Under "Events-Lectures", there is a series of lectures from the "Bioscience in the 21st Century" course. This course is a multi-disciplinary survey course in which several theme-based topics in bioscience and their social/ethical considerations are explored. These lectures are taking place at Lehigh and are given by many experts intheir fields and cover a broad spectrum of topics.
In a course specific to her iTunes U site, Silagh White from ArtsLehigh partnered with marketing course Prof. Ravindra Chitturi who taught "Developing and Marketing New Products". The projects were 5-6 minute videos that presented in-depth information about student arts events or programs on campus. The students worked in teams, with individually created production schedules for each project.
